COLLEAGUES

I have several trusted colleagues within my suite, and recommend them
for psychotherapy services and for addiction and recovery services.

Steven Brownrigg, LMHP,LADC

Steve Brownrigg is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC #202722), a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (#154), and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (#3325).  Steve started his post secondary education at Georgetown University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

Following graduation from Georgetown, he spent the next 26 years in business, mostly as an entrepreneur, but also had some experience in labor relations and business management for other corporations.  As a result of being in recovery for his own Alcoholism since 1997, Steve spent over 10 years working with addicts and alcoholics at a non-professional level. He then decided that the work he had been doing on a volunteer basis should be pursued on a full-time, professional basis.  Over time, he noticed that many addicts and alcoholics faced many life challenges, including mental disorders and various traumatic experiences, which made it difficult for them to initiate recovery on their own, even with the availability of various 12-Step programs.  Many found it difficult to sustain their recovery for similar reasons.  There also seemed to be a severe lack of qualified professionals serving this population who were experiencing what we now refer to as “co-occurring disorders.”

Steve returned to school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for a Masters in Community Counseling in 2003.  In order to work in the field of Addiction, Steve also completed the coursework in the Chemical Dependency field at Metropolitan Community College.  Following his Internship at Immanuel Hospital’s Chemical Dependency Outpatient Clinic, Steve performed both individual and group counseling for a local agency before entering Private Practice in 2006.  In 2008, Steve completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), which he has found to be extremely useful in the treatment of PTSD, Sexual Trauma and other Traumatic experiences.

Over time, Steve’s major field of interest has become increasingly more concentrated on the treatment of individuals with “Co-Occurring Disorders,” or those persons challenged by Substance Abuse or Dependency Disorders as well as other Mental Health Disorders.  Steve draws from a variety of therapeutic disciplines, combining Cognitive-Behavioral, EMDR, Solution Focus, 12-Step Facilitation and other therapies in his work.  He works primarily with late adolescents and adults.

Steve’s practice is known as Addiction & Recovery Services (ARS) and is currently In-Network with the following Insurance programs: Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Midland’s Choice, Aetna and Cigna.
In addition to his Private Practice, Steve continues to work regularly with other addicts and alcoholics in many non-professional capacities and is a member in good standing of the following professional organizations:

Association of Private Practice Therapists (APPT), American Counseling Association (ACA), American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA),  Nebraska Counseling Association (NCA),  Nebraska Mental Health Association (NMHCA),  and the EMDR International Association.
